Ann Casados-Mueller has been named assistant vice president for diversity at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, according to Juanita Fain, vice president for administration.
"Ann has served our institution well in her capacity as director of diversity initiatives. She will now take on the challenge of expanded responsibilities as an assistant vice president," Fain said.
Along with the promotion of Casados-Mueller, Fain announced that the Office of Diversity Initiatives would now report to Fred Albrecht, vice president for university and community relations.
"I am pleased to have Ann join our unit, and I know she will be an asset as we reach out to the entire Southern Nevada community," Albrecht said. "One of UNLV's goals is to assure that all groups are well represented among our student body, faculty, and staff. Ann will function as a liaison to the various groups in our community and will guide our continuing efforts to promote diversity."
The Office of Diversity Initiatives is responsible for investigating complaints of discrimination - including sexual harassment - from students, employees, visitors, and clients, and for responding to complaints of discrimination filed through state and federal civil rights agencies.
Other responsibilities include designing and conducting campus training programs in cultural diversity issues and sexual harassment awareness and prevention; developing recruitment strategies and programs for attracting and retaining members of under-represented employee groups; ensuring compliance with state and federal equal employment opportunity laws and UCCSN anti-discrimination policies; and developing and monitoring UNLV's Affirmative Action Plan.
