Carson Construction has begun work on the new UNLV Foundation Building to be located along Maryland Parkway on the campus' northeast corner. According to Don Snyder, president of Boyd Gaming and chairman of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, the privately funded project is the product of a unique partnership between UNLV, the UNLV Foundation Board of Trustees, and the community.
"We are extremely fortunate that the UNLV Foundation trustees initiated this important project and have taken an active role to acquire the necessary private funding," said Snyder. "fate and Snyder Architects have done a superb job with the building design, and we are very pleased to have a company of Carson Construction's caliber building this important new community asset."
The 23,000-square-foot structure is being built on university property at a cost of $3.9 million. When completed, the UNLV Foundation will give the building to UNLV. The building will provide much needed office space for the Foundation staff who are responsible for generating vital financial support for the university from private donors. Additionally, public spaces will be available for use by the Foundation board to serve as a bridge between UNLV and the community.
Since 1946, Carson Construction has played an important role in building the commercial, industrial, as well as educational projects that now shape and define the skyline in much of Nevada and the Las Vegas valley.
Doug Carson, CEO of Carson Construction, believes that educational facilities are the most important projects contractors can build. "Having been born and raised here in Southern Nevada, I have been impressed with the leadership of our university and the strides it has taken in recent years. It's an honor to be part of the team building the foundation for the future of UNLV and its students," said Carson.
Tate and Snyder Architects have a long history of community involvement, particularly in support of education. The company was originally established in 1960 as George G. Tate & Associates. Tate and Bill Snyder formed the current partnership in 1982. Snyder, the company's president, serves as a member of the board of trustees for both the UNLV Foundation and the Community College of Southern Nevada Foundation.
"The people at Tate and Snyder Architects take great pride in helping improve education in Clark County," said Bill Snyder, president of Tate and Snyder Architects. "We value the partnership with the UNLV Foundation, and it is a great pleasure to participate in a project that will ultimately benefit all of the university's students and faculty."
