"Leadership in America: From the White House to the Board Room" will be the topic when political analyst, editor, and best-selling author David Gergen speaks at UNLV on March 28 as part of the Barrick Lecture Series.
His presentation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The event is free, but tickets are required. Tickets may be picked up at the Performing Arts Center box office at Ham Concert Hall beginning March 15.
During the past 30 years, Gergen has held positions in the administrations of four presidents, including Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton - the latter of whom he served as both counselor and special advisor.
Gergen currently serves as editor-at-large of U.S. News & World Report. He is also the host of the television program "The World at Large with David Gergen," and appears as a regular analyst on ABC's "Nightline." He is a professor of public service at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and co-director of its Center for Public Leadership. Last fall, he published a book titled "Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton."
He serves on the board of directors of numerous non-profit organizations and is currently chairman of the National Selection Committee for the Ford Foundation's Innovations in American government program.
A native of Durham, N.C., Gergen is an honors graduate of Yale University and the Harvard Law School and has received seven honorary degrees. He lives with his wife and two children in McLean, Va., and Cambridge, Mass.
The Barrick Lecture Series, funded through a grant from philanthropist Marjorie Barrick, presents nationally and internationally known speakers from a variety of fields each year at UNLV. The presentations are free and open to the public.
