A reception was held recently on the university campus to honor the 24 UNLV students who received scholarships from Bank of America Nevada this year.
Each of the Bank of America Nevada Business Scholars received a $2,000 scholarship for this academic year.
The scholarship program, which was established in 1994, is being funded with a $250,000 endowment and an additional $50,000 donation each of the following three years from Bank of America Nevada. The $400,000 gift offers support for underserved students in the College of Business and Economics.
"We are delighted to see such a wonderful, diverse group of student recipients," said UNLV President Carol C. Harter. "We're very grateful to Bank of America Nevada for providing them with this opportunity; they represent the future of our country and our state."
Recipients are also eligible to participate in summer internships through the bank, according to Bank of America Nevada Chairman and CEO Richard A. Etter.
"We are very pleased with the selection of these students and the diverse backgrounds they represent," Etter said. "We look forward to getting to know them both in the classroom and in the workplace."
This year's recipients include seniors Leeman Abdulai, Jennifer Brekke, Margaret Buchanan, Tonya Burruel, Charmaine Clyde, Felisa Harris, Nichole Lovely, Jeanne Pughes, Henry Ramirez, Carmen Monica Robles, Bernadette Roldan, Craig Shaw, David "Jason" Westbay, and Roger Wong. Recipients from the junior class include Tanisha Bell, Meav Ear, Ricardo Gonzalez, Van Le Hoang, Peyton Keesee, Santi Khamvongsa, Tony Vibabul, and Darrin Ward.
