UNLV's William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration recently presented awards to representatives of the Las Vegas Fire Department and the Metropolitan Police Department for their ongoing participation in a disaster preparedness seminar for hotel administration majors.
"Both Tim Szymanski of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and Erik Lloyd of Metro's narcotics section have been generous to donate their time semester after semester to come to campus on a Saturday to share their expertise with our students," said Thomas Jones, associate professor of hotel administration. "Our students have told us how valuable they feel these sessions are, and we felt that it was time to thank both gentlemen - and their departments - formally."
Szymanski, the public information officer for his department, and Lloyd, a detective, were presented plaques during the fall seminar earlier this month. The presentations were made by Jones and Ken Teeters, assistant professor of hotel administration.
The seminar, which is offered to students enrolled in facility management courses, covers topics such as bomb threats, fire safety, clandestine drug labs in hotel rooms, club drugs, terrorism, and natural disasters.
