The winners of the fourth annual Silver State Documentary Film Festival will be introduced at an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Grand Hall of the Richard Tam Alumni Center on the UNLV campus.
Sponsored by the Hank Greenspun School of Communication, the festival recognizes outstanding achievement by college faculty and students in video documentary production. Alyson McCarthy will serve as host.
This year's entrants represent higher education institutions from across the United States. Entries are accepted in the categories of biography, culture, current events, fine arts, and science and nature.
Cash prizes of $250 are awarded to the first-place entries in each of the five categories. The documentary deemed the best of all entries receives the Silver State Festival Award and a $1,000 cash prize.
Excerpts from the winning entries will be shown during the awards ceremony.
The Silver State Festival Award for this year will go to an entry from San Francisco State University called "Jose Joaquin Salcedo: A Multimedia Quixote." Directed by Mauricio A. Salas, the documentary profiles the pioneering work of a Columbian priest who developed a multimedia system for non-formal education in Columbia.
Clips from the winning entries are available to the media upon request. For more information, call the Hank Greenspun School of Communication at 895-3876.
