Award-winning writer Ana Maria Shua will be at UNLV on April 10 to present a lecture titled "Life, Writing, and Politics in Argentina."
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 8 p.m. at the Classroom Building Complex, Room A106. UNLV's College of Liberal Arts, the foreign languages department, and the International Institute of Modern Letters are sponsoring the lecture.
Shua, a native of Argentina, has published more than 30 books. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship to complete her 1994 novel, The Book of Memories, which was translated into English by UNLV professor Dick Gerdes.
Shua earned a master of arts in literature degree from the National University of Buenos Aires. She fled Argentina's military dictatorship in 1976 and settled in France, where she worked as an advertising copywriter, journalist, and screenwriter.
Other works by Shua include La Muerte Como Efecto Secundario, a novel; Como una Buena Madre, a collection of short stories; Risas y Emociones de la Cocina Judia, a book of humor about Jewish cuisine; and several anthologies and children's books.
