Award-winning fiction writer George Saunders will present a reading from his works Nov. 16 at the Clark County Public Library. The reading is set for 7 p.m. in the Jewel Box Theatre of library, which is located at 1401 E. Flamingo Road. The event is free and open to the public.
Saunders, who teaches creative writing at Syracuse University, is the author of two short story collections, "Pastoralia," and "CivilWarLand in Bad Decline." The latter was a finalist for the 1996 PEN/Hemingway award. He is also the author of an illustrated fable, "The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip." In 1999, he was chosen by The New Yorker as one of the 20 best American fiction writers age 40 and under.
Saunders' work has received three national magazine awards and has been included three times in the O. Henry awards collections. He also served on this year's O. Henry judging panel.
The reading is sponsored by the Nevada Humanities Committee and UNLV's master of fine arts in creative writing program. The creative writing program is housed within the UNLV English department, which is part of the College of Liberal Arts.
