Brian Fagan, an anthropology professor from the University of California, Santa Barbara, will present a lecture at UNLV titled "The Rape of the Nile" on Nov. 3.

Scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Classroom Building Complex, Room A-108, Fagan's lecture will explore issues relating to "the plunder of Egypt's priceless cultural heritage," according to UNLV anthropology professor Alan Simmons.

Originally a specialist in pre-European African history and archaeology, Fagan has specialized in teaching, writing, and lecturing about archaeology since 1966, when he moved to the United States from Africa. Previously, he spent six years in Central Africa as keeper of prehistory at the Livingston Museum in Zambia. He is the author of 35 books and numerous journal articles.

Fagan's lecture is the first presentation of the newly formed Las Vegas Valley chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America, which is the first of its kind in Nevada and is one of a few in the area.
