More than 1,500 students and professors will be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements during the annual UNLV Honors Convocation on April 16.
For the first time, the event will be held in the evening. The ceremony, which is open to the public, is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. and will take place in the Cox Pavilion. Student honorees are asked to please arrive by 5:45 p.m. and assemble in the concourse that links the Cox Pavilion with the Thomas & Mack Center.
"The move to an evening hour was made in hopes that more family members and friends of the students being honored will be able to attend," said Barbara Cloud, associate provost for academic affairs. "It also may allow more students and faculty to attend as there are fewer evening classes than daytime classes," she added, noting that faculty members who have classes at that time are encouraged to allow students to attend the convocation.
At the ceremony, the hundreds of students who have earned scholarships and other academic honors will be recognized for their achievements. Some faculty members also will be honored.
Following the ceremony, family and friends are invited to attend a reception, which will take place in the lobby of the Cox Pavilion.
