Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's popular "All Things Considered," will speak at UNLV on Jan. 23 as part of the University Forum lecture series.
"Does Anyone Know What News Is?" will be the topic of his presentation, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Classroom Building Complex, Room A-106.
Why the news media cover the stories they do will be one of the issues Siegel will discuss.
Now that there is no cold war abroad and a bipartisan consensus exists at home on foreign, monetary, fiscal, and many social policies, the defining edge of conflict has been taken off many of the tradition subjects of news reporting, he asserts. At the same time, Siegel notes, new technologies have made reporting possible from nearly anyplace on earth.
All University Forum lectures are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and underwritten by the UNLV Foundation. Siegel's presentation also is being sponsored by KNPR, the Las Vegas affiliate of National Public Radio. For more information on the series, call 895-3401.
