UNLV's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, will host "An Afternoon With Thoreau," featuring English instructor David Barto, at 3 p.m. Feb. 5 in the auditorium of the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Natural History.
Barto has performed as American author Henry David Thoreau for 12 summer seasons at Walden Pond in Thoreau's native Concord, Mass., for the Massachusetts State Park System and the Walden Conservancy.
In addition, Barto has traveled around the United States and England in this one-man presentation, giving more than 700 performances for all types of audiences.
Thoreau is best known for his classic book Walden and his essay "On the Duty of Civil Disobedience" both of which are required reading in many high schools throughout the country.
Tickets are $3 for general admission and $2 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from chapter president Patrice Hollrah in the Flora Dungan Humanities Building, Room 657.
