UNLV has 20 $2,500 scholarships available to incoming freshmen through its Jean Nidetch Scholarship program.
To qualify for a scholarship, students must demonstrate that they have overcome adversity to pursue their educations and that they have financial need.
The scholarships, which are available to both men and women, have been awarded to 41 students since the program began in 1993. The scholarships are funded by UNLV benefactor Jean Nidetch, the founder of Weight Watchers International.
Applications for the scholarships are available at UNLV's Jean Nidetch Women's Center. The completed applications must be turned in at the center no later than 5 p.m. April 1.
Applicants must be planning to be incoming freshmen who will enroll full-time at UNLV for the 1998-99 academic year. They must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and must submit the 1998-99 Federal Student Aid and Grant-in-Aid Application to student financial services at UNLV. Complete eligibility requirements for the scholarships are listed on the application form.
