Biography

Megan O. Basson is the executive director of UNLV’s International Center for Gaming Regulation. An admitted attorney for more than 20 years, she brings vast experience in the gaming and gambling regulatory space and insight on best practices around the world. 

She is an expert in elements surrounding legalized gaming, including licensing, taxes, permissible operations, compliance monitoring and enforcement, litigation, responsible gambling, and public participation initiatives. She is also well-versed in the inner workings of forming fruitful relationships between gaming industry stakeholders; casino, betting, and gaming regulators; gaming operators; gaming suppliers and manufacturers; and legislators.

Basson spent much of her professional career in the Cape Town area of South Africa, where she was head of licensing at the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. She also served as chief financial analyst at Provincial Treasure, focusing on financial governance in the local government sector.
