UNLV's campus values define what it means to be a Rebel.
“They belong to all of us,” says Jared Christensen, assistant vice president and executive director for Human Resources (HR) Business Partners. “Representatives from administrative faculty, academic faculty, classified staff, and students have played a key role in their design and implementation.”
To introduce the campus values to the student body in a way that would showcase their’ talents, the HR team sponsored a T-shirt design contest open to all current students. After reviewing the student artists' entries, HR is pleased to announce that Jaylynn Bach, a graphic design student who'll graduate with the class of 2026, is the winner! Bach will receive a $200 bookstore voucher and her design will be featured prominently on the front of a UNLV-branded T-shirt.
Bach shared her thoughts on the motivation behind the design as well as what it means to be a Rebel.
How did you create the winning T-shirt design?
I did a lot of research into classic T-shirt designs as well as what was previously designed at UNLV. That’s where I drew my inspiration.
I was hesitant to send in my design, but the support of my inner circle is what pushed me to enter my submission. I sent my design to friends and family and asked, “Would you wear this?” Their feedback and encouragement fueled my inspiration.
What do the campus values mean to you?
I personally resonate with the campus values. They are foundations for day-to-day life. I believe understanding and adopting them are beneficial, not just as a student, but as a young adult going out into the world. My favorite values are Collaboration & Stewardship. I’m always collaborating with others.
What is your favorite part of being a Rebel?
My favorite part is how diverse we are. I have such a wide perspective due to the diversity of the people I’m surrounded by every day on campus.
Career goals?
I’ve loved graphic design for a long time now. It was my major in high school, too. I want to get as much experience as I can. Which is one of the reasons I entered this contest. My dream is to go into a designing creative field whether it is with digital or physical media. I love art, and I love creating for people.
