UNLV President Neal Smatresk outlined his vision for the university during his annual State of the University address on Sept. 12. The address included a review of 2012-13 achievements, a discussion of priorities for the current year, and an introduction of UNLV's long-term plan to become a Tier 1 research university. This includes continued development in research, undergraduate and graduate education, and a strategic increase in faculty size and infrastructure. He also highlighted the university's community and economic impact and the importance of investing in higher education.
The full address also included reports from John Valery White, executive vice president and provost; Gerry Bomotti, senior vice president for business and finance; and Tom Piechota, interim vice president for research and economic development.
