Pilot Program Sees Late Night Hours Return
For the first time since 2020, Lied Library will be open until midnight Monday through Thursday (excluding holidays).
“After several discussions with CSUN, who have requested a return to later service hours at Lied Library for students, we have developed this pilot to assess demand,” said Ingrid Ruffin, associate dean of Libraries. “We want to be responsive to student needs, but also responsible stewards of our staff resources, to provide the best learning environment for our users.”
The pilot program of late-night hours will start the week of Sept. 3 and run through Finals Week. Rebel Hours will be in effect starting at 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and run through closing. For the most updated Libraries hours, visit the Libraries website.
Study Spaces? We Have a Few!
Need a quick place to meet with students, or do you have students looking for spaces to work together on a project? Direct them to the Libraries. We have a variety of study spaces designed to meet their needs.
Lied Library offers 17 group rooms for students to use. Reservable group study rooms can be booked up to 14 days in advance, and are located on the first and third floors. Other group study rooms and study nooks are available to the third, fourth, and fifth floors on a first-come, first-served basis. Group student rooms are also reservable at the Architecture Studies Library, Music Library, and Teacher Development & Resources Library, and the School of Medicine Library has group study rooms available for medical students, residents, and faculty.
Study pods are reservable for students to work individually on coursework, participate in remote or online classes, or to simply work with minimal distractions. The pods are located on the second and third floors of Lied Library and will soon be added to the ASL.
The Libraries also provide a variety of collaboration spaces or quiet study rooms to meet needs for students. In total, Lied Library has more than 3,100 seats available for student and faculty use.
We Got Your Tech Needs Covered
The Libraries offer a broad variety of technology for student and faculty use. Need to check out a laptop or tablet? We got you covered. We also have computer accessories like webcams and keyboards available.
Lied Library has more than 400 computers (including PCs and Macs) available for student, faculty, and staff use. You can view computer availability to see if your favorite workstation is open before you arrive. We also have printing, scanning, and copying services available for use.
We also have assistive technology available for checkout, including assistive laptops, handheld video magnifiers, portable reading cameras, and a wireless trackball mouse. Or you can use our Assistive Technology Pod on the first floor of Lied Library, which includes five workstations with one-touch, powered height-adjustable tables.
Research, Innovate, and Create
The Makerspace and Multimedia Studios in Lied Library are popular locations for students and faculty working on creative projects, and offer a variety of tools and equipment for use.
Learn about the equipment available in the Makerspace and complete our required safety training by attending one of our Makerspace Orientations. This training gets you access to our 3D printers and scanners, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, sticker maker, sewing and embroidery machine, and prototyping tools.
Four audio production studios and one video production studio are reservable for use to create podcasts, music recordings, video presentations, and more. These studios are reservable by UNLV students, faculty and staff and are available during Lied’s operating hours after a short online orientation.
Help Students Save Money on Textbooks with Course Reserves
Did you know you can help students save money on textbooks by using our Course Reserves program? Course reserves are a collection of course-related books available for a shorter check out period in the library.
Students can check to see if materials are available for their courses by searching our Course Reserves availability. Faculty who are interested in placing a copy of their course materials in the Course Reserves collection can schedule a consultation with Kristian Khanoyan.
Partners in the Libraries
The Tutoring Center, run by the Academic Success Center, has relocated to the first floor as the library prepares for construction of the new Immersive Learning Center on the second floor. The new location is on the south side of the building, room 1280.
Book ‘n’ Bean (Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf), operated by UNLV Dining, is located on the first floor of Lied Library by the main entrance. The Book ‘n’ Bean accepts Dining Dollars, Rebel Cash, cash, and credit/debit cards.
The Graduate and Professional Student Association maintains the Graduate Student Commons, located on the second floor of Lied Library. The Graduate Commons features a variety of services including a computer lab equipped with a variety of PCs and MAC computers, a copier, multi-feed flatbed scanners, color laser printer, office supplies, whiteboards, a small kitchen area, and more. A small conference room is also available for meetings and study groups on a reservation basis.
