UNLV's Parking and Transportation Services department won "Best Holiday Theme" and "People's Choice" awards in the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association’s (SWPTA) 3rd Annual Build a Gingerbread Garage Contest.
Team members from the department came together to design a three-level replica of the newly expanded Tropicana Parking Garage, which opened in fall 2022.
Constructed with graham crackers and decorated with assorted Christmas candy, pretzels, and frosting, the garage features the decorative UNLV marquee in the southwest corner, deck ramps that connect the floors, and swinging height bars made of peppermint sticks. The roof's lampposts are made of candy canes, and the parking spots are laid out with pretzels. Other sweet details include strings of lights made from licorice rope hanging between the elevator shafts and a hot cocoa bar just outside the garage.
This was the first time the department participated in the contest, which had more than 25 entries. Other categories included “Most Realistic,” “Most SWPTAstic (or most unusual),” and “Tallest.”
Stop by the Parking and Transportation Services office to see it in person! Great job team!
