Zihan Ye (Finance) and her co-authors, Kimberly Cornaggia, John Hund, and Giang Nguyen, recently had their paper, "Opioid Crisis Effects On Municipal Finance," accepted to The Review of Financial Studies. The paper investigates the effects of opioid abuse on municipal finance. Research shows opioid abuse lowers credit ratings, increases new offer yields, and reduces bond issuance. Through their findings, the researchers conclude that opioid exposure impedes municipalities’ access to capital and thus hurts their ability to provide public services and infrastructure.
