Zantana Ephrem (Honors) has been selected for the 2020 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program following a highly competitive nationwide selection process. Funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by Howard University, the program supports extraordinary undergraduates interested in pursuing a career in international affairs.
Ephrem, a senior economics major with minors in political science and philosophy, is just one of 15 students selected this year from a diverse pool of more than 1,000 applicants around the country. During the six-week intensive program, she will participate in a variety of programs with leading foreign affairs professionals and attend events at diverse locations around Washington, D.C.
In 2018, Ephrem received the Boren Scholarship through the Department of Defense for her yearlong study abroad term in Haifa, Israel, where she studied Arabic language and literature as well as Peace and Conflict of the Middle East. As a McNair Scholar at UNLV, she conducted research exploring political assassinations and analyzing terrorism in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and Yemen.
She will be the third UNLV student ever to participate in the prestigious Rangel Summer Enrichment Program, following in the footsteps of Daniel Waqar (2015) and Akaisha Cook (2019).
