Yong Li (Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation), Exequiel Hernandez of the University of Pennsylvania, and Sunhwan Gwon of Korea University, published the article "When Do Ethnic Communities Affect Foreign Location Choice? Dual Entry Strategies of Korean Banks in China" in Academy of Management Journal. Research has shown that firms typically expand into foreign locations with sizable coethnic communities. However, in many cases, the ethnic community influences the investment choice of the same firm in one location but not another. The article offers an institutional lens to explain this heterogeneity.
