Whitney Elks, Declan Feery, Brisa Escobedo, Kavita Batra, Charles St. Hill, Ovunc Bardakcioglu (all Medicine) presented their study "Socioeconomic Status and Race Remain Predictors of Surgical Management of Stage I-III Invasive Rectal Adenocarcinoma Across US Regions" in a Scientific session at the Western Surgical Association Annual Meeting. This study suggests the persistence of differences and challenges with access to care in the U.S. that affect rectal cancer treatment. Elks is a Medical Resident in the General Surgery Department and is currently working on several research projects with in the School of Medicine and beyond.
