Vladislav Zhitny, Eric Kawana, Edgar Lopez (all Medicine) published a study, "An assessment of program information on pediatric anesthesiology fellowship websites," on the Wiley Online Library.
This study evaluates and compares information on pediatric anesthesiology fellowship websites in the United States to identify areas for improvement. With 61 ACGME pediatric anesthesiology fellowships, we used Google to gather websites for evaluation. Using 24 criteria commonly used in similar studies, two researchers independently assessed the fulfillment of criteria for each website. Results indicate that, on average, websites covered 54.9% of the criteria, with individual counts ranging from 8 to 20. While 66.7% of websites had over 50% of the information available, certain categories like case log numbers, call responsibilities, clinic/office responsibilities, alumni, and summary were frequently lacking.
The study suggests that addressing underreported specific details, such as case logs and alumni information, could enhance the websites, providing valuable insights for applicants. Improving content and presentation could empower applicants to make more informed decisions, fostering a more effective selection process for both applicants and fellowship programs.
