Vladislav Pavlovich Zhitny, Eric Kawana, Enes Djesevic, and Michael V. DiCaro (all Medicine) published a paper that aims to assess Augmented Web-based Applicant Experiences (AWAE) in Anesthesiology, emphasizing the need for these rotations and addressing potential limitations in case of restrictions on in-person rotations, as was the case during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A comprehensive search spanning from 1978 to 2023 using phrases like "Away Rotations Anesthesiology" yielded 73 articles on PubMed and EMBASE databases. Filtering resulted in one relevant article, supplemented by 29 web-based sources offering diverse perspectives applicable to online rotations, although not specific to anesthesiology. Despite a preference for in-person rotations, AWAE rotations prove valuable for both residency programs and students, offering evaluation opportunities and enhancing familiarity with programs. Our research suggests AWAE rotations as a viable alternative to in-person rotations if restrictions arise again.
