UNLV Construction Management (CM) undergraduate students participated in Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Regions 6 & 7 Student Competition held in Sparks, Nev., from February 8-11.
There were 57 universities with a total of 1613 students and 125 faculty coaches who participated in the competition. In this competition, the student teams were given problem statements for designing and building the civil engineering projects. These projects were actually designed and built by the contractors who prepared the problem statements. The student teams designed and prepared cost estimate, schedule, and construction means and methods for those projects. The judges, who were the industry personnel who actually designed and constructed the projects, scored the team's work and ranked the top teams in different categories.
UNLV CM students took part in two categories, namely Commercial and Design-Build. Our students received 2nd position in Commercial category out of 15 teams and 3rd position in Design-Build category out of 10 teams.
The faculty coach was professor Pramen P. Shrestha (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction), and the UNLV student teams who achieved these awards were:
- Commercial Category: Alejandro Munoz, Jose Paz, Diego Vega, Mark Bowler, Jossue Munoz, and Mateo Rodriguez.
- Design-Build Category: Adriana Cazas, Yaritzy Rodriguez, Jonathan Abrams, Shai Guzman, Alan Garcia, and Raul Montez
