Tyler D. Parry (Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies) provided testimony in front of the Nevada Legislature during the Assembly Committee on Judiciary earlier this week. He expressed his strong support for AB395, a bill that would abolish the death penalty in Nevada. Parry shared information on the historical links between capital punishment and lynching during the United States' Jim Crow period, and discussed how capital punishment manifests and perpetuates structural racism in the U.S. prison system. He is an assistant professor of African American and Africa diaspora studies.
