Timothy Erwin (English) recently published an essay, “Discours sur l’Œil: Roméo et Juliette et Marriage A-la-Mode de William Hogarth,” in the Actes des Congrès de la Société Française Shakespeare. He argues that the 18th-century graphic artist follows Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy in his best-known series of engravings. On behalf of the Johnson Society of the West, Erwin also hosted a ’A Johnsonian Musicale,’ a concert and tea at the Huntington Library featuring musicians performing traditional songs and ballads.
