The newspaper article recounts the late-19th-century migration of ailing Easterners to Southern California, lured by doctors' claims that the "salubrious" climate could cure disease. Some dissenting doctors, however, argued that an unceasingly pleasant environment can pose risks to the healthy as well as the unhealthy.
