Shanna Kinzel, associate director of the UNLV Student Union and Conference and Event Services, a Division of Student Affairs, was awarded the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Values Award during the annual conference in Boston, Massachusetts. The ACUI Values Award is presented to college union professionals who uphold the ACUI core values of unconditional human worth, joy, learning, caring community, innovation, diversity, and integrity in their daily work. Kinzel has been involved with ACUI for more than 10 years in a myriad of roles, including: educational programs coordinator (former region 15), region I volunteer coordinator, region I conference planning team chair (Berkeley), annual conference program team member (Indiana and Boston), and serving on a program review team for the UC Riverside student union.
Kinzel’s work with the UNLV Women’s Council includes being unanimously elected to serve as the Women’s Council co-chair, where she manages the budget, conducts Steering Committee meetings, supports task forces, and supervises staff. Her service work is completed while holding a demanding full-time position within conference and event services. She displays a level of diversity and inclusion awareness by considering how policies, processes, and words impact marginalized communities.
