Sohail Akther, Sidath Kapukotuwa, Asma Awan, Manoj Sharma (all Social and Behavioral Health), Chia-Liang Dai, and Omolola Odejimi (both Education) published an article, “Theory-Based Determinants of Stopping Drowsy Driving Behavior in College Students: A Cross-Sectional Study,” in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. The study found that about 50% of the participating students reported drowsy driving in the past month. The study reified Sharma’s multi-theory model (MTM) of health behavior change to predict drowsy driving behavior among college students. Akther, Kapukotuwa, and Awan (also administrative faculty) are graduate students. The study was funded by an Injury and Violence Prevention Student Research Grant from the Colorado School of Public Health received by Akther.
