Pearl Kim, Jay Shen, Hee-Taik Kang, Dong-Hun Han (all Health Care Administration and Policy), Seong-Min Park (Criminal Justice), Georgia Dounis (Dental), Tsigab Bahta, and Ji Won Yoo (both Medicine), along with Sung-Youn Chun, Jinwook Hwang, and Yong-Jae Lee, published an article, "Dissociation Between the Growing Opioid Demands and Drug Policy Directions among the U.S. Older Adults with Degenerative Joint Diseases," in the journal Medicine.
This study examined temporal trends of orthopedic operations and opioid-related hospital stays among seniors in the nation and states of Oregon and Washington where marijuana legalization was accepted earlier than any others.
Kim is a graduate student. Han and Kang are international scholars visiting the UNLV School of Public Health. Chun, Hwang, and Lee were visiting scholars in the School of Public Health when the study was conducted.
