Dr. Sandhya Wahi-Gururaj (Medicine) published her paper, “Cancer Survivorship in Hematologic Malignancies: Lifestyle Changes after Diagnosis” in the Cancer Medicine Journal. Wahi-Gururaj and colleagues performed a cross‐sectional study of 116 patients at a community oncology center who completed anonymous questionnaires. The study demonstrates that patients exhibited significant lifestyle changes after being diagnosed with a hematologic malignancy. She and her coauthors call clinicians to take advantage of this "teachable moment" to educate patients about positive health behavior changes. Especially since advances in cancer therapeutics have led to an increase in cancer survivors, this education is crucial in reducing the risk of developing chronic comorbidities as well as secondary malignancies. Wahi-Gururaj is part of the internal medicine department.
