Ross P. Berkeley, MD, and Kristina H. Domanski, MBBS, (both Emergency Medicine), recently published a manuscript titled, "Impact of the Las Vegas Mass Shooting Event on the Graduate Medical Education Mission: Can There Be Growth from Tragedy?," in the peer-reviewed Western Journal of Emergency Medicine. A cross-sectional survey was utilized to assess resident physicians and attending faculty involved in the acute care of the patients from the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas mass shooting. The study measured the psychological impact of the event, post-traumatic growth, team cohesion, social support, known risk factors for post-traumatic stress disorder, and the impact of the event on GME-specific tasks. Dr. Berkeley is the chair and program director of the department of emergency medicine, and Dr. Domanski is the assistant director of research for emergency medicine.
