Rachell A. Ekroos (Nursing) is the principal investigator for a subaward in the amount of $44,428 of a parent grant ($398,719) funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). She will collaborate with researchers from other institutions, including George Mason University and Georgia State University, to support their project titled "Improving the Forensic Documentation of Injuries through Alternate Light: A Researcher-Practitioner Partnership." This formative evaluation research will rigorously assess and evaluate the programmatic implementation of alternate light source (ALS) use during the examination of injuries among adult victims of sexual violence and intimate partner violence. The results of this funded research will inform the development of an ALS implementation program, including evidence-based, research-informed procedures and training in the forensic medical application of ALS technology, documentation, photography, and medicolegal interpretation.
