Paul Oh (Mechanical Engineering) and his team of UNLV researchers and students are being featured in the Nova special, "Rise of the Robots," which will air at 9 p.m. Feb. 24 on Vegas PBS.
In spring 2015, UNLV's team, DRC-HUBO@UNLV, competed in the international Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) robotics challenge, placing eighth in the world. “Rise of the Robots” follows the engineers and teams of DARPA as their robots compete in real-world challenges designed to eventually have robots replace humans in disaster relief situations. The program investigates the cutting-edge technologies that are advancing robotics as never before … and the enormous challenges that the robots still face.
Paul Oh, Lincy Professor for Unmanned Aerial Systems at UNLV, is part of the mechanical engineering department in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and an internationally renowned expert in robotic and autonomous systems. Oh leads UNLV's team of post graduate researchers and industry partners, as well as graduate and undergraduate students.
