Patricia Iannuzzi (Libraries) created a two-day institute for the colleges and universities in California and Hawaii accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WASC requires institutions in its region to collect evidence of student learning in four "core competencies," including critical thinking, information literacy, oral communication, and written communication. The two-day institute included plenary sessions, workshops, and a team of "mentors" who served as consultants for faculty teams from colleges seeking help in articulating, embedding, and assessing critical thinking and information literacy in both general education and in the major.
