P. Jane Hafen (English) and Patrice Hollrah (Writing Center) are members of the American Indian Alliance (AIA) who attended the Native American Literature Symposium (NALS) in Albuquerque in March. As Clan Mothers of NALS, they help to organize the symposium, arrange the book and vendor exhibit, confer literary awards, present papers, and mentor young scholars and graduate students. Hafen presented the Bea Medicine Award for Scholarship in American Indian Studies to Molly McGlennen for Creative Alliances: The Transnational Designs of Indigenous Women's Poetry; and the Electa Quinney Award to Susan Power for Sacred Wilderness. Hollrah presented her essay, The Sacred in Susan Power's 'Sacred Wilderness'. AIA currently is planning the 16th annual American Indian and Alaska Native Convocation Ceremony to be held May 15.
