Holmes Scholar Mayra Marquez-Mendez (Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education) presented her work titled, “Critical Reflection, Generative Thinking, and Funds of Knowledge: A Culturally Responsive Mentorship Model,” at the 2023 Annual American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference in Chicago. Her work conceptualizes a culturally responsive mentorship model to support teachers’ ability to use critical reflection, generative thinking, and funds of knowledge to transform their pedagogy to support their linguistically and culturally diverse students. Some of the foundational elements in her conceptual work include using a culturally responsive mentorship model to investigate the impact of mentorship experiences on teachers' ability to build authentic pedagogies that support their students. Conceptually, the model could help explain how mentors and mentees interact to support learning, promote knowledge, and encourage networking experiences, especially for culturally and linguistically diverse students.
