Lung-Wen Antony Chen (Environmental and Occupational Health) and colleagues published an article on "Measurements of brown carbon and its optical properties from boreal forest fires in Alaska summer" in the journal Atmospheric Environment.
In this study the team investigated emission and aging of brown carbon (BrC) aerosol from boreal fires in Alaska summer, through a field campaign and modeling. It is found that BrC dominates absorption in the near-ultraviolet and visible radiation during the Alaska wildfire season. The study highlights the role of wildfires in climate change, particularly the warming over the Arctic region.
