Lung-Wen Antony Chen (Environmental and Occupational Health) and colleagues published an article on "Metal contents and size distributions of brake and tire wear particles dispersed in the near-road environment" in the journal Science of The Total Environment.
This study monitored air quality at near-road environments, focusing on metal pollutants. The results highlight the importance of non-tailpipe particulate matter emissions from brake and tire wear as well as paved road dust. Size ranges of non-tailpipe particles are characterized, which may inform relevant exposure and risk assessments.
