Lung-Wen Antony Chen (Environmental and Occupational Health), along with researchers from Desert Research Institute, University of California, Riverside, and California Air Resources Board, recently published an article, "Evidence of non-tailpipe emission contributions to PM2.5 and PM10 near southern California highways," in Environmental Pollution.
This study characterizes PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations and chemical compositions adjacent to two major highways in southern California. Markers for tailpipe and non-tailpipe emissions were quantified. The results will be used to improve understanding of near-road PM sources, atmospheric transformations, potential health effects, and community exposure.
