Louisa Messenger, Katharine Major, and Karen Figueroa Chilito (all Public Health) were invited by United to Beat Malaria, a grassroots campaign of the United Nations Foundation, to represent the state of Nevada during their biannual Advocacy Day on September 14th.
On Advocacy Day, Messenger, Major, and Figueroa Chilito met with representatives of the offices of Senator Jacky Rosen and Congressman Steven Horsford to advocate for increased funding for the President's Malaria Initiative, the CDC and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. They were among 108 champions across 36 U.S. states to meet with their Members of Congress in raising awareness for increased funding to control and eliminate malaria by 2050.
Major is a MPH student and Chilito is a Ph.D. student.
