Lisa Kelleher (Intercollegiate Athletics) and Starr Wharton (Student Recreation and Wellness Center) attended the Step UP! Be a Leader; Make A Difference facilitator training at the University of Arizona. The pro-social behavior and bystander intervention program educates students to be proactive in helping others. It raises awareness of help strategies, increases motivation to intervene, and develops skills and confidence to respond in threatening situations in order to ensure the safety and well-being of others. This program was taught to all UNLV student-athletes last year. In the fall it will be taught to incoming freshmen and transfer student-athletes. Healthy Rebel peer educators and other health and wellness advocates at UNLV will go through the program as well.
