Latinos in Action in conjunction with Clark County Schools took over the UNLV Student Union on March 28, 2023, and UNLV faculty, staff, and students were asked to present to the 280 projected Latino students who aspire to be community leaders and who participate in Latinos in Action here in Clark County.
NASA astronaut José M. Hernández was the keynote speaker, and Latino presenters from UNLV facilitated student workshops throughout the day on campus. LeAnne Salazar Montoya (Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education) helped organize the workshop sessions and individuals who will present to local students. Montoya believes in windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors, a theory that emphasizes the importance of seeing leaders, and others in the community that youth can aspire to be by having these models in key positions. This event aligns with UNLV's Top Tier 2.0 initiatives.
