The Department of Family and Community Medicine was awarded a three-year grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to continue the Nevada Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (Nevada RESEP). Led by Laura Shaw MD, associate professor, Nevada RESEP provides free medical screenings, education, and outreach to individuals who were exposed to radiation from aboveground U.S. nuclear testing 1951-1962. The program has also assisted families with filing claims under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, which Congress let expire in June.
