Kwang Kim and Hui Zhao (both Mechanical Engineering) are the principal investigator and co-principal investigator, respectively, for a $292,932 grant recently awarded to UNLV by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to establish an advanced volumetric particle image velocimetry (PIV) system and flow channel for fluid mechanics research and education in STEM. The PIV system is ideal for in-lab experimental understanding and accurate calibration in ongoing and future development of underwater actuators, sensors, and other soft-robotic devices at UNLV in projects directly of interest to the DoD.
