Kenny Do, Eric Kawana, Dr. Sisi Tian, and Dr. Jo-Lawrence Bigcas (all Medicine) published a systematic review in the Ears, Nose, & Throat Journal. This research paper examines the use of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treating Warthin's tumors of the parotid gland. Warthin's tumors are the second most common benign tumors of the parotid gland, and traditionally, they have been removed with superficial or partial superficial parotidectomies. RFA is an alternative method in treating Warthin's tumors for patients who may not be able to receive anesthesia or undergo extensive surgeries. This minimally invasive approach uses heat from radiofrequency waves to resect these benign tumors of the parotid gland. This systematic review demonstrated that RFA is effective in significantly reducing the size of the Warthin's tumors with few postoperative complications and improved cosmetic outcomes.
