Kavita Batra (Medicine) co-authored a study titled, “Global, regional, and national burden of diabetes from 1990 to 2021, with projections of prevalence to 2050: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021,” (earlier published in the Lancet) was recently mentioned in the Washington Post as a part of its “Big Number” series, which takes a brief look at the statistical aspect of health issues. This post emphasizes on the main finding of the paper, which states that “the number of people worldwide with diabetes is projected to more than double in the next three decades, reaching 1.3 billion by 2050.” Since the time this study was published in June, it has received 157 mentions in media already.
