Katie Wade-Jaimes, Micah Stohlmann, Katrina Liu (Education), Monika Neda (Sciences), and Mei Yang (Engineering) received a grant of $1.2M from the National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to prepare culturally competent science and math teachers. The team will prepare a new cadre of eight undergraduate STEM students per year, resulting in 24 new science and math teachers who are highly qualified and culturally competent in five years. Each scholar will be supported with scholarships of $10,000/yr for up to three years. Federick Ngo (Education) will serve as the external evaluator for the project. The project is titled “Building STEM Educators for Excellence in Nevada (B-SEEN at UNLV),” and it was routed through the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Education (CMSEE), which is a collaborative venture between the colleges of Education, Sciences, and Engineering.
