Dr. Katerina Roma (Medicine) published her manuscript, “Late Stage Diagnosis of Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Appendix: Case Report of an Unusual Tumor with a Rare Presentation” in the BMC Gastroenterology. After a thorough literature review, she reported for the first time a case of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix presenting as inguinal pain with inflamed phlegmonous tissue and scrotal abscess. The significance of this paper is that it highlights a unique presentation of late-stage appendiceal mucinous adenocarcinoma which is important since reports of unique clinical features are needed to facilitate early diagnosis and intervention, especially in rural settings with limited access to specialists. She is a resident in internal medicine.
